Here are some pictures of a 302 block on an engine stand. The cool thing is the engine stand adapter plate made by Scott Marshall. I'm sure you all know who he is! The adapter allows you to put early Chevy and GMC inlines on a standard engine stand with out messing with all the sort of adjustable pieces. The fit of the plate with it's spacers is perfect, solid and safe. I have always hated trying to get one of these engines bolted to bolt up. Thanks Scott! Tom Marshall engine stand adapter

Does it look like the crank will clear? Yes I see the large cutout in the plate, for some reason, on my end it looks like it doesn't go close enough to center.

If you want I can flip it over and drop a crank in it. It would just take a few minutes. I could do it Thursday. Beater

Errr, I'm on my handheld, was the plate alredy welded to the stub for the stand (the tube that let's you rotate the engine)?

I sent it to him in kit form to make the shipping cheaper(fits in a USPS Flat Rate Box that way),and he welded it himself. I typically Tig them together,but the finished product ends up costing about 6-7 more dollars to ship because of the larger box it has to fit in after your done. The next batch I do, I was considering offering to machine the persons Inliners username or personalize it more for them as an option, maybe....

The plate has a hole cut into it that is the same size as the tube so I can weld it on both sides of the plate. Might not offer any strengh advantage for the weld, but it just gives you the extra piece of mind. Plus, since the tube is inserted thru the plate, that also supports some of the engines weight and the weld isn't having to take and support the full weight of the engine, as opposed to being butt welded flat against the plate. Anyway, thats just my thinking, it might not even make a difference.

I did test fit it with several engines before settling on this design. And while it doesn't have any crank clearance issues with the Stovebolt or GMC shortblocks it checked and tested it with, I guess there could be that one odd one out there that might be the exception, but yes Beater, check it with what you have to see if you have any problems.

I'll do it tomorrow. Mine is just welded on one side. I will do the other one too. I also drilled holes for a handle/lever for turning and for a pin to hold it a 90` angles. That may be best done by the user to fit their stand. Actually my son welded it for me when he was home for a few days.

CNC-dude, the shipping was my primary concern when I asked if it was already welded.

Anything that can be made to fit one of the flat rate boxes is a better deal, especially shipping to AK (almost without exception).

Nex, I know what you mean about shipping to Alaska. So far on the several that have been purchased by some fellow Inlines in the lower 48, the shipping has been averaging in the $15-$16 range for a fully welded one in a pretty big box, as opposed to a $9.99 size USPS Flat Rate Box in unwelded form. It does have its advantages to sell them in kit form for the buyer, especially if they are overseas or in your case Alaska, and they have the ability to weld it their self.

What are you getting for one of these?

I've been letting Inliner members have them for $60 welded plus shipping. Unwelded would be a little cheaper and shipping is also cheaper than for a welded one.
