does anybody know if a flywheel off a 250 will fit on a small block chevy ? if so will it fit the early model 265/283/327 or the later model 327/307/350/305 or even later genration 1988 up with the one piece seal ? thank you very much also one more thing I missed out on the dyno info for the 292 that everyones been talking about. Is it too late to buy in ? if not who do I send te money too? thanks Mike out:

I'm pretty sure the newer type 6s will inter change with V8s with two piece seal and internal balance, and same # of teeth for the starter, not the 400 ci. Beater

Yup, should fit.
230-250-292 series inlines have the same flywheel flange pattern as small and big block up till the mid-'80s when the one-piece rear main seal was introduced on the small block.
Exceptions to watch for are late 292 with 1/2 inch flywheel bolts, 400 and 454 external balance weight, and '80s up one-piece rear main seal.

Mike:
Regarding the 292 dyno tests: check out the Hi Performance threads on this forum to follow up on the great work tlowe and CNC-Dude (and many others) did planning for, and running the extensive 292 dyno tests. In due course, there will be a series of articles published in a major automotive magazine regarding the outcome of the tests. As I undestand it, there is apparently an article also planned for our 12-Port News publication and more extensive results will be showing up in this forum at some point as well.
There is a similar 250 dyno test currently in the works that presumabley will happen some time early in the new year. Many of us who contributed to the 292 effort will (or already have) chipped in for the 250 project and I'm sure Tom will appreciate any help you'd care to give.

Send a PM to Tom Lowe and ask him if it's too late. I bet it isn't. Beater
