What's up for the 2010 convention in Texas?

Where, when, Is there going to be a drag race? HOPE SO!!! even if it's only one night test and tune only.

I will be posting the preliminary information on the 2010 Convention, including lodging, shortly. The current issue of the 12 Port News also has the info.

Sean,
Found out the problem was the ignition.
Now in the 9.80's had to change the roll cage to be legal, rebuilding the engine for this spring. But still a 3300 Lbs street legal car.

We really need some track time at convention in 2010.

I was talking with the wife about going. She asked what the dates were. So I looked it up.
June 17-20th.
This goes on Fathers day weekend! Great gift for me, but horrible for the family. Don't know if I will be able to go.

If it was 1 week later, not a problem.

Anyone else have problems with that weekend? Nothing can be changed, that is understood. Just grumbling. Tom

The NSRA South event used to be on Mothers day until the attendance became so poor they had to change it. You would think that the organizers of these events would take this into consideration when planning.

The conference organizers have (so far?) decided NOT to have any drag racing during the conference. That will probably mean that four of us will not be attending. Jim

I realize that with all the things you do and have done, you've probably never had the time to be involved in the planning of a convention. Since I've been heavily involved with 3 Inline National Conventions, I can tell you that there's more to it than picking a date. It's easy to talk about, not so easy to do and please everybody. Try it sometime!

Sorry you're considering not coming to the Texas convention. Even though there won't be any drag racing, there will still be plenty to do and alot of interesting people to meet.

Since you're a fairly new member, I'll give you some history on the last several conventions. At the 2008 Iowa convention, we had 6 racers in attendance.

Of the 3 conventions in Denver, we had no more than 10 inline cars and those conventions were held in conjuction with our yearly Flathead/Inline National race. The majority of cars here were from the local area. At the past convention in Detroit, there were less than 4 cars.

Sometimes scheduling a race for that number of cars at a close dragstrip to the location of the convention is impossible. And being a die-hard racer myself, I can understand that.

Hope you change your mind, like to meet fellow drag racers. But will also enjoy all the other things that will be happening!

Bob, I can just imagine there is a lot more than meets the eye to planning an event such as this. It just seems that when it does happen to fall on a conflicting date, such as a holiday or other celebratory occassion, it just seems to yield a lesser attendance than it could otherwise. But im sure the planners had their reasons for selecting this date. Since its been mentioned that there will not be any racing, does anyone still bring their race cars for any kind of show and tell type of gathering.

I took one of my drag cars to the drags at the Detroit convention. As was stated only a few cars elected to drive down the strip. I came to race but there was nobody to race me. So I took it to the banquet and parked it out front. Rather a disappointment to me. We are so widely scattered as a club that I don't think any convention venue can draw enough cars to have more than a token showing on the drag strip. Go to the convention to BS about sixes, and attend your local nostalgia drag race (Goodguys, NHRA, HAMB, etc) for some racing opportunities.

I think you're correct and the planners had their reasons for selecting this date. Many things are involved such as hotel availability and scheduling at other venues. I'm sure there will be some racecars at the convention along with many racing fans. Are you planning on bringing your Nova? From the picture it looks respectable. Looking forward to being there.

After many months of overtime at my job we are trying to get MIGHTY6 ready for the convention. We have not made much progress in the last 3-4 months. It will be a challange to say the least! With the convention allmost in my back yard I need to make this one!

I'm not sure how easy it would be to have a group go to the track on Friday for TNT. Then go to the convention on Saturday to tell lies about how fast our cars are. \:\) San Antonio Raceway is about one hour away from the convention site.
