Can someone tell me the original vehicles that the 250 came in? I have read lately it is the camaro... but was curious what other people use when they buy repair manuals..... I was looking to do some minor work.... any suggestions?

Unless you can verfify casting and stamped codes then stay away from anything in a 1967 or older and you can be pretty sure you won't be getting a 230 or 194. The only way you could end up with one of the 2 smaller engines is if someone used it as a replacement for a worn out 250. By 1968 the base in line 6 through out the Chevy line up was the 250. Late 70's and newer had the intergral head and manifold and we usually avoid them or swap an earlier head onto the short block.

So... the reason i was asking about the original car for my 250 was so i could replace a water pump pulley... Any ideas on good places to look for a 72-3 water pump pulley?

Many thanks...

I donīt know how much it helps but the 250 became the smallest 6 available for pickups in 1967 according to the crossreference in LMC Trucks catalog, which includes the stamp letters. If you could post the stamp behind the distributor that might help in finding out. Hope this helps.
