http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_F_engine

Looks like Toyota bought the chevy 235 design from GM in the mid-50's and based the 2F engine on it. Wonder if the head changed much ????

Looks very similar, but I doubt that any dimensions match. The bore spacing is wider (closer to the GMC), the deck is taller, rods are even longer.

I still wonder about the head's ports and if chevy/offy/clifford manifolds might match up enough to use.
My Land Cruiser friends don't seem to know. Let's start a rumor. \:\)

That was thought to be an interchangeable head with the Stovebolts ever since Toyota made that engine. It wont fit the block, the head is either too short or too long to fit the block and the bore spacing is much different than a Stovebolts.

Yeah. The rumor is already started.
I looked at a landcruiser manifold today. They have great big long oval-ish ports.
They are actually aluminum.

I've seen that rumor pop up several times, every time someone tries to screw any of it together (Chevy / GMC / Toyota) nothing fits. \:\(

Nowhere close. \:\(

I forget where but someone had a picture of the three head gaskets laid over each other and IIRC the Chevy is shorter than the Toyota which is shorter than the Jimmy. \:\(

As I recall the Toyota cylinders are spaced evenly (IIRC the Chev is in pairs) making for an even more dificult fit (at least for a Toyota Head on a Chev block).

I seem to remember buying a gm waterpump for my '71 landcruiser for about a quarter of the price of toyota's. Seems like the ignition parts were all the same, too. Points and stuff. Wish I still had that Landcruiser, it would go anywhere. And pretty much did.

The 1F engine looks the most similar to the 235, even the ports. As the development went along, the head design changed completely to become more modern, and the latest ones are 12 port.

I think Toyota made Chevrolet engines under licence before WW2.

I could be wrong, however.

Yes - Toyota's earlier L6 OHV "B" engine (ancestor of the F) is a copy of the 1929-36 Chevrolet, made in 1937.
