Inliners International Forums General Discussion Engines 292 Dipstick and tube

I did an oil change on the 292 in my '65 Pickup today and put in 5 litres (equivalent to 5 U.S. quarts 946ml) with a new filter but when I check it on the dipstick, it barely shows up on the end of it. Can anybody measure their dipstick and tube from a 292 that they know is accurate and let me know what the sizes are. Not sure if I have the right tube and wrong stick or both wrong.

I think mine takes 6 qts.

Most 292's take 6 qts.

I am a little late to the party, but I have a picture of 2 different 292 dipsticks, one from 65, one from 79. When lined up together so that the tube bulge that seats on the block boss matchs, they penetrate the pan the same length, they both extend 7 7/8 past the block boss. the "add" line is 1 inch from the tip, and the "full" line is 1 1/2 from the tip.
