I need some help to ID a Chevy block. The number stamped on the flat milled surface next to the distributor is LAQ 493966. The engine was in a 53 Chevy powerglide. Unable to get at the other casting number to read it. Thanks in advance for any help.

Luke,

The links in the Stovebolters' site to the Old Online Chevy Manuals indicate that the LAQ prefix is for a 1953 Powerglide 235 engine.

Thanks Hoyt. I knew that someone would know. I'll be in contact with you soon about the convention.
