The oil sump on a 292 is deeper and longer than on a 250. You guys probably already knew that. Unfortunately, the 292 oil pan hits the center link on the steering on a rear steer car such as the 56, even though it didn't on the 250 I used to see how everything fit because they're just the same right? So, since I have already powdercoated the 292 oil pan, I guess that's my excuse to notch the firewall and set back the engine! I'll take pics, but I'll only share them if I don't butcher everything.....

Why not go to a 250 pan and pick-up on the 292 and call it good? The length of the engines is the same other than potentially different pulley widths. You probably could sell the 292 pan in the classifieds and come out ok.

Well, Bruce, the only reason I can give not to do it like you said is your recommendation is practical and would be easier.
