Usually you'll have to weld an extension to the T5 shifter arm so it's long enough and has the right bend to clear bench or bucket seats.

I used a B & M shifter #45049. Hurst also makes one.

This is one of the shifters available on Ebay right now. You can use either this model or the Billet Plus just make sure they are the correct one for your tranny. Here's the active link to the auction. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hurst-Shifter-Ba...e#ht_1429wt_702

I cut the S10 stock shifter and welded the original SM420 shifter handle to it. I then followed the tech tip off the stovebolt to shorten the throw. Works really nice and well worth the effort.

i'm kinda new this deep into engine/transmission conections. i want to put a 72 chev 250 with t5 into a 63 chevy fordor biscayne. Hamilton Intakes makes an adapter that sounds like it'll be easy, has anyone used this? i know i will need to move the rear transmission mount back, and use the 63 bellhousing. what clutch will i need, the 63 was 10 spline, the t5 is 14. i plan to get a stovebolt intake with two carbs, and split exhaust.

Is the T5 from an S10 ? The Camaro shifter will give you a problem but the S10 shifter (and tailhousing if that is the trans you are using) will work much closer. The T5 will bolt onto the '63 bellhousing and the pilot bearing in the crank on the 250 will work with the T5 but you might have to trim 3/8" off the end of the T5 input shaft for the trans to sit tight into the bellhousing. As for a clutch to use it will depend on what size the one in your 250 is. You will use the pressure plate and throw out bearing from the 250 but the clutch disc you use can come from a mid 80's and later Astro van or there were some years of Jeeps that also had a 14 spline disc in them. The speedo cable should screw right back on but the driveshaft will need some re-working. The T5 is a little longer and it is a finer output shaft spline so you can use a driveshaft yoke from a 1965 and newer G.M. It will have the same size u-joint as the '63 and the correct spline for the trans. Not a real hard job to do as I have installed one in my '40 Chev and my '65 Pickup. And you will be very happy with the end results. Just ask if you have any more questions and I will try to answer them for you.
