Inliner gang, I was pulling out some small shrubbery/stumps in the yard over weekend w/the truck, revved up pretty good to get er done. But NOW when I get up to about 30 MPH, the old girl (str8t 6, 235) shakes the whole truck like a mini-earthquake!! What in sam hill is goin on?

I'm no mechanic so any help is appreciated. Thought is was a bad rod but...??

Many thanks for any insight. \:\(

possibly bent the axle housing?

I will almost put money on this being the cause.
Unless the engine is shaking while the vehicle is stationary, and revved up,I doubt it is engine.
go find a hill, and with the engine off,let the truck roll up to 30 mph and see if the shake is there.

PS: towbars are for towin',axles is fo'drivin !

Walpolla, dont' think its the axle as the shakin' really feels like its reverberating from the front/engine, and it stops completely when coasting down hill at 35mph! the gear shifter feels same (thanks for that doug).

now i'm thinkin' maybe tlowe#1716 has something there -- BUT this definitely started AFTER pulling out the shrubs (didnt have a tow-hitch!) so, would doing this type of work really screw up the timing gear that bad? If so...

how big a deal is adjusting the cam timing/valvues ($$?) ?

I was thinking that you may have tossed part of the clutch disc. Could it be that what you are interpreting as shaking is the engine moving around more than normal due to a broken motor mount?

OK Hank, you have blown my theory out of the water!
Does all this happen when the truck is stationary with the engine running or ONLY when on the move?

hey sorry about long delay! but YES it ONLY happens when the truck is MOVING. And i've also now noticed that it happens when i'm coasting downhill but only when i'm at close to 40 MPH. Coasting at say 20 its ok. wonder what the heck i did to this thing!

I've had similar vibration to those described. It turned out to be the intermediate bearing and its support housing for the intermediate 'U' joint. If yours is a long bed you should have that lashup. If you have no vibration with the engine running and clutch out, then I would next look at your driveline lashup. Good Luck, KB aka Telekenfun

Sounds to me you might have bent the rear axle housing, pulled the housing out of line at the spring perches, or perhaps spun the wheel balancing weights off the rim. Also look for a broken motor mount and check for a tire with a bubble in the sidewall or damaged tread. Using the drive train or suspension parts for anchor points when pulling can cause all sorts of trouble.

Good luck,

Tim
