Would like to swap the modified cam in my 261 for a standard grind. Will a 235 solid lifter cam work in this engine okay. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Starting in 1956, 235s with solid lifters had 261 cams.

What use do you want to get out of your 261?
Work truck, street car .... what is it in ?

That cam was useful for the original trucks the 261 came in, with single carb and exhaust. Peak torque was around 2000 rpm.
If your 261 has better breathing (more carb and dual exhaust), I recommend an RV grind like the Delta 254s (Delta Cams in Tacoma, WA)
That's what I have in my driver with .060 bored cylinders and 9.0 cr.
Gives peak torque around 3000 rpm and runs really well without overdrive, 3.55 rear and 28.3 tire diameter.
Great for city and freeways and still has power left.

Thanks Road runner,
My car is a 1934 master roadster. The 261 is fitted with 3 strombergs, headers and has 50thou off the head.Tire size is 28inch and rear axle was 3.2 but have just changed to 2.9 With the 3.2 if the speedo and tacho are working correctly the revs were around the 2 thousand mark at 60mph. With the 2.9 axle it will be less.As I understand it the stock cam produces more torque under 2000rpm and this is where I am looking. This car is strictly a road car only with no interest in racing it

Torque will be a little more and higher up the rpm range with a milled head and better breathing.
With the stock cam you could run the center carb most of the time and make the outer ones progressive.
Should give you noticeable more torque below 2000 rpm compared to a performance cam.

Thanks for that Road Runner. Now I just need to find a cam.
