I would like to power my '57 Chevy with a modified 292 six.
However, I would also like to avoid mounting the power steering pump up on the front of the intake manifold. My car is equipped with a modified 605 power steering box.
Will an electric power steering pump (ex. 2004 Malibu) provide the pressure and volume to power the 605 steering box?

Sorry to tell you but the G.M. units at least don't work that way.
It's all within a rack asm. with electric moror, torque sensor & control module.

This is part of the description for that '04 Malibu:

Power Steering Motor
The power steering motor is a 12 volt brushless DC reversible motor with a 65 amp rating. The motor assists steering through a worm gear and reduction gear located in the steering column housing.

g.m.dude,
Thanks for your prompt reply. I was fairly sure that that was going to be the case. Thanks again.

Check the Beemers in the wrecking yards, especially the Minis, they have (or at least had) an electric pump.

IIRC some of them had hydroboost as well (Cooper S maybe).

May not be enough volume, and you may not want to listen to the pump (they are't particularly quiet) as they run any time the alternator is online. \:\(
