Turbo-6 Hi,I finally found you here on this Forum. A while back we (me and my staff) are looking for more details on your awesome Turbo '37 Chevy Coupe. As we are specialists in Inline Six Chevy engines here in Brazil - S. America, we'd like to get some pic's of this car, turbo engine...etc. We also make some products for these inline six engines as intake manifolds, headers, valve covers, side plates and so on. Just get back your reply and let me know if you can help me out on this matter! If so, send pic's to inlinesix@terra.com.br Thank you,

Get a copy of Leo's second edition Power Manual it has a profile and pictures on my 37 chevy, thanks for the interest in my project.
I broke the 12 port Brazilian head and building another stock divided US head, they both flowed the same. I'm doing this until I get a Kirby 12 port head.
At the end of last year the 37 ran 9.61 @ 139 MPH not too bad for a stock style head? I was happy!

Harry, what happened to the Brazillian head? Cracked?,where? I thought the Brazilian head flowed less than the US head or they flowed same w/your custom devided siamessed head? Guess Douglas was correct about saying anything over 500 HP or so & the heads crack? Do you have a Kirby/Sissell head on order? Thanks MBHD

Chamber busted out, same as USA heads will do at higher HP levels.
A divided USA head and a Brazilian 12 port flow the same, when I first seen the Brazil head I thought it may flow better but to no avail.
Yes I have a head on order from Mike, can't wait to try it, Mike's head flows 75% more than mine that should help the HP. Harry

Turbo6, Are you saying the Kirby head is going to flow in the neighborhood of 400 CFM?

IIRC, his devided port US head flowed 180 CFM? Which equtes to 315 CFM.
That is what my cyl head flowed approx when I recieved it. Street strip small port job w/small valves installed.

Everything looked good even the head gasket could be reused, just caved the combustion chamber into the water jacket.
I am still going to use carbs much easer to tune the car.
I fought three problems for years. 1) Spinning bearings I thought from detonation. No just a stupid mistake I overlooked, does everyone know the stock oil pump pickup is in the FRONT of the oil pan sump, just moved it to the back and NO MORE PROBLEMS with bearings.
2) Ignition too week, with a turbo use the strongest, MSD #7 or better.
3) Siamesed intake ports, with gasoline, at high levels of HP cylinders #1 and #6 would run lean and melt everything, by dividing the ports it fixed that problem. I think with methanol (alcohol) you can run over rich and masks the problem.
Anyway it lives now, if the head wasn't so weak, with the new Kirby head that shouldn't be an issue. And make more power.
Tom, my head flowed 180 cfm @ 28" Mikes is 315cfm @ 28"

Harry,
do you have any pics of the caved in combustion chamber?
I don't think I have ever seen one of those.
I have seen many combustion chambers being taken out from valves breaking & what not.
It sounds like you have caved in combustion chambers before, or are there other mishaps you have incountered w/the siamesed port head?
Thanks

Harry I don't know if it can be done to a chevrolet head or not but Frenchtown Flyer used to modify Ford heads by installing a bolt through the water jacket and against the back side of the combustion chamber for extra strength. You might talk to him. He wrote a article about it several years ago in one of the magazines.
Been there, Done that, Hope to live long enough to do it again. Big Bill I.I.# 4698
