I would like use a slave cyl. to activate the clutch on my early 50's chevy. It has a diaphram type clutch and I want to use a 3/4 bore slave cyl. that I happen to have. What size master cyl should I use. My limited knowledge says use a 7/8 just to be safe that it will push the slave cyl. far enough. What is the correct way to figure this out? Thanks.

Having a larger bore master than the bore of the slave puts your foot at a mechanical disadvantage, thereby defeating some of the pedal ratio.

If you know you are short of travel, a larger bore master is one way to make up for it, but it can result in a heavy clutch pedal, if you aren't careful.

Do you know how much travel you need at the slave cylinder?

Thanks for your imput. What I have is a 235 chevy and a 52 Chevy truck bell housing with a small clutch and diaphram type pressure plate. I am not sure of the travel needed for the slave. The motor is out of the car and I was not able to check it. What I think I am goint to try is this. I have a 3/4 slave from a Datsun 280Z. This slave used a 5/8 master cyl. in the Z. These master cyl. are cheap at the parts store. I will try this set up and see if works ok.
