well i just got my new truck home last night. she runs good. had to put a new radiator in before bringing it home. I was it had a 292 in it. but the engine suports are straight across from each other. the fuel pump is up front on the passenger side by the distributor and the side covers are only about 4 inches tall.
when i went to get it I had a new radiator but it ended up being to big. I was able to modify stuff and got it in and it did fine.

the engine casing is 3921968
with GM under it
53 or 58 under that.

so its a 230 or 250

now right behind the dipstick is the number: B89

to the left of the dipstick is: CON 2

the flat plate by the distributor the number is: CE912902
If anybody knows what it is please let me know.

thanks mark

No replies so far from others so I'll share what I have just learned.. mostly from the Santucci Chevy inline 6 power manual:

The 292 has 6" tall sidecovers, tall deck, and the passenger side motor mount is between the oil pump and the distributor.

230 and 250 have 4" tall sidecovers, lower deck and the passenger side motor mount is almost lined up between the side covers, the oil pump sits between the motor mount and the distributor.

So you have a 194, 230 or a 250.

Your block number is listed as a 230 in the Santucci book, 1966-1970

And I have the same number on my 1970 230.

So you have a 230. \:\)

If it is the original engine it is a 230. It probably had a decal on the air cleaner or valve cover. 194's only came in Chevy II's and possibly Chevelles, 250's didn't come out until 66.

thats kind of what i'm wondering. it sure is a peppy little motor. moves the truck right along. seems to have more grunt and what not than the 235 ever thought of having in a 1/2 ton 54 ad truck and the 230?? is in a 3/4 truck.

This adds nothing to the topic, but Chevelles came with 194's I have proof. in my driveway.
