I was given a 302 from a military truck with an automatic trans, real heavy duty. How in the world do you get it out! All the bolts have been removed and the engine can rotate left to right but will not separate from the trans. Does the torque converter bolt to the engine and the trans? It is frozen and I can't get to the torque converter bolts, all 800 of them. Any ideas? Armond

Those came w/ GM hydramatics-4-speed variety. Check for unseen bolts, pry gently, perhaps remove grease/dirt to verify parting line. There should be nothing holding them together if you got all the bolts but rust and dirt on the dowel pins.

Good luck. How about a px?

Armond, sounds like a good reason for a few of us to pay a visit and slap that baby into submission. Is the engine seized / stuck and you can't get at the convertor to flywheel bolts?
The 55 cup coffee pot is cleaned and ready to be pressed into service again. \:\)

Mighty fine coffe it was too! I can get the engine and trans 3/4 inch apart, engine will rotate left to right but will NOT seperate. This thing's a 2 1/2 ton all wheel drive. It's not the Hydramatic used in smaller Jimmy's. Maybe flame? Arm

One might talk to the people at Memphis Equipment Company (http://www.memphisequipment.com/); they sell and service these things and sell parts for them. They are an excellent source for GMC 302 parts, and i have found them quite helpful. They should be experts on this problem. Note that they have a branch in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, as well as the main shop in Memphis.

God's Peace to you.

I am preparing to attack this same situation. Do you have the compressor on top of the powersteering pump?and what is it good for? I am waiting for some cool weather to slow the wasps down before I dig into it.
