Is ring orientation the same for all engines? I have a 292 that I'm finally putting together this winter. It was stored as rebuilt for 7 or so years, and purchased 2 yrs back by me, in which time all the white grease turned to glue. She got blown apart for cleaning and mods-I just want to make sure that the rings are sitting where they should, as I'm the guy putting it back together. Thanks.

Once the engine cranks and is running, the rings will always continue to move and rotate around the pistons from where you positioned them originally when you installed them. So, as long as you place the gaps 180° apart, that should be fine.

yep 180 degrees with plenty of oil on em. i had a panhead harlet engine built for me in 1976 and then because of life i had to put it in storage till winter of last year. it was assembled with white lubriplate engine assembly grease. i was amazed when i pulled the side cover off to inspect it. it was just like new !
