Met with Walt at many nostalgia races here in the NW. Great guy and a real good racer. He does eat a strange breakfast though. You'll like him a bunch.

One thing he did not tell them is the motor went from a 11.5-1 compression down to a 10.1 compression.Either way He is one Great man to ever meet up with. Thumbs Up to him and his ride.

While Walt was in Florida I had the great fortune to have him spend a few hours at my house before he went to the track in Orlando and went to the track with him the next time he came to Lakeland. He was waiting on the starting line 10 minutes before they got the timing lights set. If he wasn't making a pass down the track, he was waiting at the line for the next one.
Neat dude, if there ever was one. He did say he planned to be at the convention for a few days but will miss the dinner to be racing someplace that weekend. Oh, his dinners might also be termed somewhat strange.

What did he change to get down to 10.1 compression?

The previous head was a Sissel 194. The new one is a 250 head with lumps.

Hank,
Are you going to try and fit those into the 12 port head? Might turn it into a Comp Eliminator engine with all the extra airflow! JK!

Kidding a side, Walt is one top notch guy! Sat with him at the 2010 Convention meal. Talked about his car plenty.

Izzat th guy that drove an early 50's chevy 235 two carb pickup down to the Borne Texas Convention with out a/c (whew!!) and got the long distance award? He didnt have the ZZtop look at that time. He was running what looked like a "vapor Injector" with some extended air horns on that 235 at that time.

The 194 head was done up by Mike Kirby some yrs ago.And still has the Boss in it. The chamber has had some work done to it.
But now the Boss will be removed & T6G2 kit will be installed, along Regasket matching with larger gaskets & porting.
Then it will go back onto a fresh motor.

So, the 194 head will have some of those T6G2 lumps installed?

Is the new engine going to slow back down because of the 194 cyl head?

I keeped hearing the 194 head will not work good unless it has major reworking of the chamber walls, is this true?

Well Hank, Leo's book doesn't get any clearer on that subject than what is said about it. All the dyno tests that Tom did only confirmed what has been said in his book for the last 10 years or so about that matter. So its not like that is a new idea, its been widely known for decades by many racers and engine builders as well. Why are you finding it so hard to believe, you act like you've been told there is no Santa Claus again.....

Has anyone moved both guides over to increase the intake-to-wall distance? Even small changes have been useful in SBC wedge chambers.

Yes its been done. Results were scant. It still comes down to the open chamber vs. closed chamber design. Same for the BBC, the open chamber breathes better everytime. Also, anything you do to the 194 head to improve it can also be done to the open chamber making it still better than the 194 head, so just start with the better head to begin with.

this looks more like this all went off topic again as the bashing seems to be starting.

But anyway my last things to say is One reason the 194 was low on CFM was the boss was still in the head and No lump kit.
Both heads were Built as Hot street heads. Not all OUT. And The 194 head is going on a completely different Built motor. For the most part He was after a motor to run on PUMP Gas. a 10-1 motor should have at the vary least 100 octang rated fuel.
One of his main goals is to get the car into the 12s as a daily driver.

my2 cents is now been said.
Thank you.

I must have missed it in Leo's book, what page or pages is it on about the 194 cyl head being a bad choice or not to use it?

Thank you

Not sure of the exact page, dont have a copy of it with me at home, but it is mentioned that once these heads in general get below 64cc's they lose flow(even the open chamber heads when milled that much), so that pretty much eliminates the 194 head from even being considered in the first place as a cylinder head to choose, since they are smaller than that to begin with. So then putting larger valves in them and cutting them even more puts them even smaller than 64cc's that much more. That info has been in his book since the beginning, even the new book still has it in there. I guess you did miss it....

Ok, I did see that. I was looking specifically any mention of a 194 cyl head was not OK to use.

Thanks

I think from what it says in the book, its pretty specific to mean and include all heads. Take it or leave it, it absolutely matters not to me!
