Inliners International Forums General Discussion Drive Train Help to identify a transmission.

Hi everybody I need some help to identify a transmission that I found. But I didn't find many informations about it. Second my researchs it is an A833 but I found as NP440 so I definetly lost and need to know exactly which transmission is before think about buy it.

According to what I found it is a Chysler product for the most part. startin in the6\mid 60's on up. Even used as an overdrive for some vehicles. had 2 different spline feeds but the next paragragh seems to fit what you have found since you show the bellhousing from a Chevrolet


(GM used this same transmission with GM's own 10-spline input shaft, input bearing and retainer:
o 1981 to 1986 Chevrolet 2- and 4- wheel drive pickups and Suburban (3.09:1 ratio first gear)
o General Engines designated this transmission code MY6.)

Thanks jimmy now knowing which transmission it that, came another questions. If is from a chevy v8 that bellhouse will fit in my 250 I6??? And if this transmission is strong or not Im expecting about 350hp and maybe in future put nitro, it gonna work???

I think bellhousings from the V8 will fit all 250's. The trans is plenty strong enough but the site I found says they don't speed shift very well. They were designed to use behind the mid 60's chrysler V8's. If yours came from a Chevrolet Suburban/pickup if must be pretty strong...Rebuild kits are available by searching GM MY6 Transmission...

There also mention of some problems with wearing on one of the shafts. They felt the problem was because the oil used in these was ATF. They sggested a combo of regular trans oil and atf or 85-90 gear oil....Good Luck
