Help!!! I have a 261 chevy. I picked up a Lakewood shield for a '57 V8 (rear mounts on shield), the correct rebuild 12V starter to bolt to the shield, and an adapter to bolt the whole mess to my 261. What diameter and tooth count does the flywheel need to be to work with this combo?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but that Lakewood scatter shield will not bolt on to your 261 unless you are using an adapter plate, like Tom langdon's or buffalo. As for the flywheel, you should probably install the adapter and the Lakewood on, and put the stock flywheel up to see if it will worknwith the starter. If a 235/261 fits, then McLeod still has the blue prints to carve up a steel flywheel. They used to make them for Clifford back in the day

I have one of Langdon's adapters and the Lakewood bolts right up to it. The Langdon's is original intended for use with his special starter but that one will not work with the '55 - '57 style Lakewood I have, that uses the same era Chevy starter which bolts to the bellhousing. I have the correct 12V starter for that application. I also have a '58 235 truck flywheel and one from a '59 261 so I guess that I will just have to try them and see if one works.
