O.K. ;

I don't know who assembled my old truck , it has some mix 'n match bits on it's i6 engine ..

I have a 168 tooth flex plate on it now , for the TH350 tranny .

It has a 9 tooth parallel bolt starter than bolts to the block .

Does this sound correct ? .

It seems to work O.K. but occasionally made that GM screeching noise instead of engaging and a few of the teeth on the flex plate look beat up .

Once the engine begins to turn it's quiet and smooth .

It has two sets of torque converter bolt holes , three inner , three outer , it's American made but has no other markings in it ~ I'd like to buy another new one whilst I have everything apart .

Comments , suggestions , part numbers or suppliers are appreciated .

I was looking at Summit Racing , maybe one of the NAPA ones mentioned in the many older threads I've been researching here ? .

TIA ,

The flex plate is the same as a pre 86 non-400 small block if your crankshaft uses 7/16" bolts. If it uses 1/2" bolts it can be drilled or buy a 292 specific flexplate. Most after market flexplates have the two converter patterns. Make sure the teeth on the starter are not worn and shim the starter if needed.

THANK YOU ! .

I ordered up a new flex ATP plate , it has both sets (sizes) of holes and three steady pins too .

I also got several box fulls of new engine parts , still have more cleaning to do, bead blasting etc., etc.

I'm jazzed .
