This concerns a bent as opposed to a straight six but I don't think that will have any bearing on the problem. '97 FORD F150 XLT 4.2 liter. It won't start; solenoid clicks. Cleaned battery posts and connectors, load test battery, add a jump start battery, remove starter and had tested at a reputable shop, relieved tension on serpentine drive belt and made sure all loads would spin free. Put vehicle in PARK and used socket wrench with a 15" pull handle on the crankshaft pulley bolt. It took all I could do to move the engine about 1/8 of a revolution or less (ccw). Is there ANY way the transmission could have anything to do with this or am I just wishing? I really don't think I missed anything. Seized engine? Thanks. Ray

If it is a STD tranny and it's in gear. Other wise NO

have u pulled the plugs and tried turning it over then??? at least that will help with finding out if maybe uve got a blown head gasket, maybe the carb is dumping fuel and loading up in 1 cylinder (hydraulic).. if it still doesnt turn over, it may be time for removal and teardown..

Not too familiar with that particular engine but is it possible it has jumped the timing chain or timing belt? If it has a distributer and you can get the timing marks to align for #1 then you can check to see if the rotor is reasonably close to firing position for #1 cylinder. Before you go through all that try to find out if it is what is known as an "Interference" engine. That means the valves will hit the pistons when the timing belt or chain lets go. If it is not an Interference engine then you have potentially more serious problems. Good luck.

Thanks Larry,tnsmith,& Mike. It is always good to run your conclusions by guys who know what they are talking about. I will pull the plugs. It does not have a distributor It belongs to son in law. I bet he will buy GM next time. Ray

i obviously didnt read what ray had said 3 times b4 rattling off at the ole keyboard... lol, anyways, if its the motor i think it is, its like the "baby brother" to the 4.6, and is a BIG interference engine... im with mike on this...

Last year my neighbor's truck (same engine) had what sounds like the same problem after sitting for 4-5 weeks while he was out of country. We drained the coolant out of one of the cylinders (rt front maybe) and he's had no problem since with daily use. I'm thinking intake gasket/torque problem and probably not too hard to fix but he doesn't care to mess with it so....
