Ok stupid questions time again.

If I buy 307 pistons do I need to buy a 307 ringset or can I run a 250 ringset?

What are your thoughts on Total Seal gapless rings?

thanks vince

By the rings for the Piston. and you don't need gapless for a daily driver.

Larry!
Learn me something!
Why wouldn't you recommend moly rings for a street driver?
Just curious.
Thanks.

I just read an article on the corvair engine. When GM put the turbo on the corvair they went from cast to a chrome ring, to cut down on blow by.

Twisted what rings are you running in your motor?

a ceramic moly ring.

You can run them on the street I never said that you couldn't. a standard cast ring I do believe is a little cheaper thats all.
As for my 2cent on chrome NEVER again. They also seem to have sealing problems. Meaning they take much longger to seat IF?? they seat.
Been there done that and never again. So now all i use are the ceramic Moly rings.

I had heard chrome rings wear the bore faster than cast. But maybe thats just because they are usually used in Hi Po engines where everthing has to work a little harder.

Dan;

It's because the chrome is harder than the cast iron wall.

Stick with the 'normal' rings like Larry said. With the correct hone pattern, you'll never go wrong. \:\)

Yeah that makes good sense, I have heard a few stories(Larry's included)on the chromies not seating well. Btw what are the drawback's of using gapless rings for daily street use.?? Is it mainly a price thing?? Just curious.

i think it is mainly a price thing. But those type of rings are normaly used for some type of Blower or turbo Or even maybe Extreme compression motors.

Yes i did. I think the set that was in my old motor came from seal power?? But pretty much can
get them from any one who makes rings.

I had chrome rings on a High performance VW engine. I thought those things would never seat. It took about 10k miles before they finally did. I run cast, and never have had any problems.
