Hello guy's

Well still learning. There are a lot of topic's to read  \:\)

I have a a question about a GMC 302 engine.

Can i use that engine in my G10 Van to build a work engine instead using a Chevy 292??

Which engine is better to use?? I don't want a race engine but a "work" engine with a lot of torque

thanx in advance.

Marcel.

the 292 would be better. for a few reasons. 1 came in your chassis, 2 higher output, 3 easier to get. i could send you one, got lots of them. tom

Big Block Chevy.
Is that true TOM?

I had a complete 302 engine shipped to a local freight terminal, where I picked it up.The net weight on the pallet sticker was 575 lbs. That included bellhousing, clutch and flywheel, generator, starter and intake, exhaust.

Thanks!
I knew those engines are a lot heavier than a 250 inline.
Does a 235 weigh about the same?

I would say a 235 is about the same weight.I know the 302 flywheel weighs 30 lbs,the clutch and housing ,starter, generator another maybe 60 lbs total. That puts the 302 complete long block at just under 500 lbs. This seems a little light on the freight scale as GM said the 302 longblock goes for around 530 lbs,but maybe that includes a crate?.Anyways, the 302 is fairly light for a vintage inline of 300 cubic inches.
Small block Chevy V-8's go for 500 lbs or so,I don't know about the L series 6's,but they must be near 475 lbs.

I have read the L series 250 weighs 440 LBS.
They are supposed to be roughly 100LBS lighter than a SBC.
