56 chevy half ton, with 235 and muncie OD 3 speed trans, since this tranny fits 235, and t5 fits 235, and t5 fits 292, is it safe to assume that a 292 will bolt bolt up to this old muncie? and using brothers SB cradle crossmember, and stovebolts adapter kit (which gets a 292 in a 54 and earlier frame, because they have mid mount motor mount location) possible to piece this combo in? assuming that all these parts jive together, what you guys think? I would like to keep my curent driveline til i get a t5

I don't know if the length of that set up will match a T5, but the Muncie will bolt up. You may have to change the clutch disc and driveshaft length for the T5.

yeah I know that the driveshaft will more than likely have to be modified for length, but a 292 will indeed bolt up to my old mucie, what do you think about the SB chevy cradle mount with stovebolts 292 into 54 and earlier adapter kit, think its doable? thoughts anyone

I thought with a '56 you could just use the V8 mounts and offset one for the 292. The '54 and earlier trucks only have front plate and bellhousing mounts.

the mount location is all wrong on a 56, thats why i was talking about a cradle set up and that stovebolt bracket (not what it was originally designed for but I wonder if it will get the job done) was hoping for a lot of feedback

I haven't got a clue what the sb cradle looks like. The 292 has passenger side motor moved forward about an 1 1/2 inches, so it's not the same distance from the firewall as the drivers side. The sb wants equal distance on both sides. My 2 cents

New member here,Im'redoing my 52 chevy p/u I don't mean to change the subject, But I was wondering will the 292 bolt up to my old 216 bellhousing like the 235&261? I was looking for more hp from a six. A freind of mine is giving me a 235 to beef up but if the 292 will bolt right up without any modification I will look for a 292 for more hp with my saginal 4spd and stock closed driveline with 3:55 ring&pinion from patricks.Thanks for all your help,Larry.

Dear Larry;

No, the 292 engine is the 'later model' and totally different. It's about the same amount of conversion to use that as a V-8 etc.

The 261 is the best deal for your truck as it 'bolts in' using your 216 bell housing & other stuff too.

Welcome to Inliners Int. & good luck. \:\)

Walt and John,I agree a 235/261 would the easiest to bolt in.

Old52pu the 292 would not bolt to the 216/235/261 bell housing. You will have to get a sb bell housing for the 292 to bolt too. It's possible any Chevy truck bell housing up to 72 (except 60-62 Hydraulic clutch) would work since they have motor mount pads on the bell housing. I sure I'll get corrected on that if I'm wrong. 8-) I just looked at the Stovebolt adapter kit and it does offset the motor mounts? Since there does not appear to be enough width with the kit, I'm assuming the sb cradle will necessary to mount to the frame.
