Hi fellow inliners, it has been a while sence I have posted on this forum. I have a carb question, what is the largest cfm 1 barrel carb that will fit on my 2 bolt flange manifold. I currently run 3 stromberg bxvd and I think I'am slightly under carbed. I run a 5 carb intake, so 2 more bxvd might be a option.
Thanks
Ron

i have a McGurk five-carb manifold that i got from Tom Langdon in a trade. Tom recommended the Stromberg BXVO-2, if one were to run all five. Whether others will fit will depend on the bolt pattern measurements. Back in the day, the BXVO-2 seems to have been the carburetor of choice in this application.

With adapters one could try three Rochester 2Gs or three Holley-Webers. Three or five Carter WA-1s might also be a possibility, if they would fit the manifold.

For cfm ratings and bolt patterns of several one- and two-barrel carburetors, see

As i recall, you have that nice '35 coupe with GMC in the "Inliner Rides."

God's Peace to you.

I was told by Tom years ago when he first opened that the Jeep Hurricane (?) OHC 6cyl Holley carb was the best flowing (and easily tuned) 1 barrel.

This was for use in place of a Ford 223cid 1 barrel on a Judson surpercharged Volvo b18..

You must be turning some serious RPM's. The Stromberg BXOV's came in different venturi sizes, the largest was 1 7/32". Their size is molded into the carb in a small circle right next to the fuel inlet. If you are needing just a slight increase, check your venturi sizes. ??
In the old days McGurk recommended 2 or 3 of the 1 5/32" BXOV's. If you have the 1 5/32" just going to the 1 7/32" would give you a 'slight' increase. I would not recommend going with 5 carbs for a street driver as you really start to loose your vaccumn. But it's fun to play.
