Can I tell if the carb is jetted too rich for my application from a CO analyzer test? The carb was bought rebuilt, but im not sure if it was jetted for the caprice or if maybe it was jetted for another application such as a truck. If I remember correctly, if the readings are 2-4% then it is OK, if they are above that then the carb is too rich, am I right? The car has no catalytic converter.

To test it, I just jack up the rear wheels so they are in the air and rev the engine to 2000 RPM to get the readings right? Should the transmission be in Park, neutral, or drive?

Dear Tatao;

I would pull the plugs to tell. If they are chocolate brown there just right. Liter is to lean/darker to rich etc.

No equipment necessary.

Good luck, John M., #3370

I took out the plugs and they were as black as they can get. What jet size should i get for the carb. Anybody know what jet sizes the monojet had for a Chevy Caprice or any other car as big and heavy as the caprice. Would it be OK if I buy jets the same size as the ones the old carburetor had?
