Hi all, my idle is running to fast on my 250 cid.
When driving around town and come to a stop sign my idle won't slow down 1200 rpm i have to punch it like I'm kicking the choke off.The linkage doesn't seem to be holding up,the spring tension is alright.I'm running a Mono-jet single barrell.I was wandering if I should be using a insulator between the carb and the intake manifold.Right know I have just a small base gasket. Make sure your linkage/throttle cable moves freely as in not binding or hanging up anywhere. If that checks out then try your idle speed screw.

Check to see how freely your cable and linkage is moving.
Is this a monojet (post 70/71?) equipped with an idle-stop solenoid, because if so, it may be malfunctioning, and I would recommend replacing the entire carb with a pre 70' monojet, to eliminate this pesky bugger.
If your carb is not equipped with such devices, check your idle adjustment screw.

my two cents

Thnaks for the replys, I think it is the linkage binding up on the exhaust manifold, I played around this past weekend and made some headway Matt,not sure about the year of this carb,but its manual choke and it is a very simple looking carb. Ted

Dear Ted;

Check out the "fast idler" cam. It's part of the choke assembly and can 'bind' also. :rolleyes:

Do ALL of these tests with the throtle linkage off etc.

If 'all is well' It's the linkage like you said.

Good luck. \:\)
