Hi All-

Have a 292 with a 4bbl Offy intake and Edelbrock 600cfm carb in my 63 Chev Biscayne. If I run the carb inline with the engine, I end up having to put a huge dent in the valve cover for clearance. Naturally, this means I need to turn the carb 90 degrees so...anyone running this configuration and willing to share pics?

Thanks!

The Offey intakes The carb Only Mounts 90 dergees.
Not Like a clifford where The carb can Be Mounted Either In line Or at 90 dergee. And Most carbs Need a space under them Because The linkage will not clear the intake runner.

Twisted-

You're right about the spacer; I've got a 1-inch spacer in there right now. Be sweet if I could actually give it some gas! :-(

I switched my '67 truck from a bottom pivot pedal to a '70s swinging pedal and cable. I took cables from three different vehicles and ended up using the longest one. I think it was from a full size olds or Cad. It makes a pretty good right turn from the firewall before it loops around the valve cover, but has never been a problem.
Switching the pedal to a hanging pedal could be a nightmare with the engine in the car. I did mine with it out as none of the old holes were usable.
I used the bracket from a Q-jet that had to be widened to reach both rear bolts and raised up so the cable cleared the cover.
This was what worked for me, but in a car it may not do as well. Don't think throwing money at it by buying a Lokar cable will solve any problems. You still have to figure out what to do with both ends of it.

That's a Clifford manifold and a Carter AVS, but real close to what you have.

I have the same setup as yours in my 1965 Pickup. Sorry I don't have any pics but I will try and describe it. I am still using the original pedal and rod. I took the pivot that mounts off the side of the block on the older 6 cyls and mounted it flat behind the carb linkage. To do this, we made up a plate to go across the back of the carb (parallel to the valve cover) and picked up the two rear carb mounting bolts and left a little hanging out towards the firewall side. Drill a 3/8" hole in this plate so as when the pivot point is aligned with this hole and the one arm is aligned with the carb linkage. Put a 3/8" bolt thru the hole and slide the pivot over it with a double lock not. I believe I had to use a couple of flat washers to keep the height correct to remove any bind from the rods.We also put a small plate on its side welded to the top to prevent any flex in the bracket. All that is left to do is make up an arm from your pedal to the one side of the pivot and then a shorter arm to the carb. I had some 1/4' rod that I just tapped to 1/4-28 NF thread and used the swivels from the original. Just open the throttle all the way up and then measure for your short rod. I have put about 2000 miles on this setup with no problems and I like the pedal feel, no rough spots. Don't forget the double return springs. Send me a PM if you have any other questions and I will try and get a picture of it.

63biscuit,
How is the hood clearence with your setup? Room for an air cleaner? I have a 64 Biscayne that I'm planning a 292 swap in the future.

Well, I'll be really honest - it's VERY tight. With an Edelbrock Pro-Flo airfilter (lowest profile I could find) I have pretty much zero clearance under the hood. If I could run without a carb spacer, it's be easy.
