I did a search of past posts and came up with more questions than I started with...
Will a 292 harmonic balancer fit a 261? If not, what are the diferences? I don't need any more pullys or anything. I was just want a better balancer. My 261 balancer looks bad. I've seen new 292 2 groove balancers for $59.00. I just want a better balancer...what are my cheapest options?

Dear JB;

All 216,235,261 interchange and rarely go "bad".

I usually use the early ones (with the wide belt) to keep things looking orginal.

Check with Buffalo Ent. for more details. He's the guy (Steve) that makes the 292 ones for those with A/C etc.

Good luck \:\)

Gentlemen;

There are no 'new' ones without spending a bundle, which is not needed. As 'out of ballance' as the 'stock' engines are, they don't turn fast enough etc.

Anything from 1937-62 works, with a few exceptions. The 'small' belt ones started around 1950 & go till 62.

They can't be chromed because there 'vulcanized'.

Call Patrick's. I'm sure he has several.

Good luck \:\)

Depending on what you intend to do with the engine (ie performance, rpm etc) we made a brand new one. yes it is expensive - they run $400. it also has 2 grooves and is a direct replacement for the oem balancer. it aine cheap, but good stuff usually isnt.

email me if you want details
