I'm installing a rebuilt 302 in my 51 GMC 1 ton. I'm wondering if it's heavier than the 228 that I'm taking out and how the various GMC engines differ. Are the 248, 270, 302 motors the same block as the 228 with just a different bore and stroke or are there significant differences in the blocks?

Thanks

Hey, Sidehill,

They are all the same basic block, and would all weigh about the same. The only really big difference would be be the motor mounts for a military block 302. There shouldn't be any other major obstacles to a 228 to a 302 swap.

Hope this helps, Kinky6.
