I believe most of the stock pg converters would stall around 900 rpm. However...

Similar to what Walt said, the stall will depend the combination the converter came out of and is going into. A converter from a 194 in a Chevelle would behave differently than 400hp 427 in a Vette and what you are putting it into makes a difference. For example, if you where to take the example Vette converter in a 3/4 ton pick-up with a 230, it will stall lower than in the Vette due to lower torque and higher weight. The 194 converter behind a built 292 in a Chevy II would probably stall higher than stock.

Are you talking about the cast iron or aluminum
case Powerglide? If memory serves me the aluminum
case trans used 2 different converters, an 11in.
and an 12in. depending on the application. My
expierence has been that most will stall between
900 and 1200 R.P.M. For the smaller displacement
engines there was also a air cooled model. These
used a converter with fins attached around the
outer diameter and I believe they were 11in.
Probably more than you wanted to know ,it's
that coffee thing again.

Forgot to mention the 11in. would have a higher stall speed than the 12in. behind any given engine.

Thanks, guys. I was referring to an aluminum PG which currently lives behind a 230 and lugs around a 3300 lb car. I was thinking that the stall was around 1000, but as I say, I hadn't been able to find a range anywhere.
