Hi All, yesterday when I went to move my 47 Chrysler out of the garage, the clutch pedal stuck to the floor. I removed the floor plate, got the clutch free, and it was working once again. Tonight, the same thing happens. What is causing this. A little history, I have a slow antifreeze leak at the back of the engine, there was antifreeze and crud in the bell housing, the release bearing had greasy goop all over it. I have not had a chance to pull the trans and clutch to repair the leak and to clean up inside the bell housing. I did vacuum out the area, got as much crud as I could from the outside. But why would this cause my clutch to stick in the pedal down position. Any ideas what I need to do to correct all of this.........47 man

no, it diidn't actually, the problem is at the clutch release fork, and quite possibly the release bearing is sticking on the shaft. Will check it out better tomorrow......47 man

Walt's on the 'right track'.

The "crud" as you call it may be causing the collar that slides (forward) to bind on return. This condition will keep the pedal in the 'down' position.

Take a garden hose & nozzel & wash it out of there, with someone holding the clutch pedal down. Allow it to dry over night and it should be okay.

Good luck. \:\)

On some cars, the clutch linkage can go over-center and cause the pedal to stick down and the spring holds it down. This can be adjusted out.

Removed the transmission today, but the The release bearing assembly is tight on the shaft, is this normal, I could not slide it off. I also broke one of the "hairpin clips", does anyone on here have an extra, I could buy.
The ebrake shoe is toast, any idea how much it cost to get it relined.
Phone Napa out here, the clutch assembly is $146.00......47 man
