Guys, i want to build a Chevy 250 I-6 for my '64 nova. i currently have a 194. I'm planning on a big cam, 194 head, port and polish, lumps in the intakes, 4 bbl intake, holley 390 and some headers. about how much HP would this make? Also, can i put nitrous on it? Jay B.

Well first off You are not really giving us much info. Like cam specks What compression do you plan to run/have Flat top pistons or popup pistions. Sec. this thing I don't think that 390 would be enough carb to run NOS with. 3rd. thing is With running pop up pistons You will have Way to much compression to keep the head on even with out NOS. So we could use some more info here.

Planned compression ratio is 10:1, planning on a 290-300 duration 488-510 lift cam. Nitrous will just be a afterthought, if the engine doesn't have enough power for my likings.

Whos cam is that? And that 290-300 is advertised not @.50 so thats a good low end to mid range cam with that type of lift. I also have a fair warning for you with that 194. IF? You run a piston that is a true Flat and a zero deck. (ex. with my 194 head that has 52cc and a true flat top piston zero deck it will give you a 12.66666666666-1 compression)in a 250 block.

You also need to make sure the cam is designed to use with NOS Some cams are designed just for NOS they have a different lobe seperation some NOS cams have lobe seperations of 112-115 Which is my understanding, work much better for NOS. So with what combo that you have in mind you should be in the 200 plus hp range. But feel safe saying not past the 250hp. To me the cam is small to make much over that 200hp range. But hope this helps.}[oooooo]

about the best i could tell you at this time would be get ahold of the Guys at NOS that make this stuff and find out what type/or how much lope seperation they would think would be best. And they can also tell you AT what amount of NOS that you may very well be able to use and what mite be the best compression to use along with it? If a 110 lope seperation is Ok to run with the NOS Then I may Very well have a good cam choice for you. And Even with out the NOS I think would make for a very good Hot street settup with the right head work. And this is still a hyd. cam. And not needing a high rear end gear. Hope this helps and Let me know what you find out. }[oooooo]
