I was just wondering what jets/ metering rods you guys are running in your Edelbrock carbs. I have a 250, the mods are listed in my sig. I just swapped in 83s on the primary and 89s on the secondary. I'll have to check the rods. Any help or thoughts would be great. Thanks. John

For what is worth, my 66 Chevy II had a 292 with a Clifford 264 cam, 600 Edlebrock on a Clifford manifold, Stovebolt headers and a 700R4. Ran 92 primaries and 89 secondaries: I do not remember what metering rods I ended up with. It passed smog and ran great. It is ~ 2700ft here with relatively low humidity.

Thanks for the reply. You didn't have any problems with running rich? I've got to get an oil leak taken care of, then I can see about fine tuning. Thanks again. John

If you have access to an exhaust gas analyzer, it would be a big help in setting it up. If you have the manual that comes with the carb, it has good instructions on tuning. If not, it is availbale on their website.

Also, buy the Edelbrock tuning kit for the carb. It makes tuning easy as the parts you need will be right at hand. Between the cam and propane pistons there was no problem with running rich on that 292. Anything from 65 up here, not totally stock and running a Classic plate, must go through smog tests and it passed very easily.

I have access to EG Analyzers at school (I'd need 2), but I can't drive the truck to school right now. I've got the instructions, 2 calibration kits, and a rebuild kit. I've already rebuilt the carb., then I used the calibration kit for the #1404 carb. I was just curious what worked for other people. Thanks. John

Just thought I would say, keep in mind that if you are using a "stock" coil this will make the motor run rich. Most Stock coils do good to produce 4,000 volts and any kind of performance motor needs at least 20,000 volts are better.A HEI will produce 30,000 volts easily. Also remember the advancing the ignition timing leans out the motor. Maybe this will help--Paul

John,

I run my Edelbrock 1403 (500 cfm) as it was preset from the factory. It's on a 292, bored .060 over with a mild cam, HEI & headers. I've only adjusted the idle mixture screws to compensate for cold startups. This carb performs great as is and doesn't stall or bog at all throughout the rpm range.

But of course my engine is bigger than yours and my carb is smaller than yours.

Thanks guys. I'm using an Accel coil and a Pertronix conversion for the dizzy. I've got to see about knocking out this oil leak soon, so I can get back to work on it. I just have to get everything together, and find a place to do it at. Thanks again. John
