I have an 86 ford pickup that I have owned since new,I have chopped it and beefed up the motor some,it is a 300 six, head milled .030,ported and polished, crane cam, lifters, pushrods and valve springs, clifford headers, dual exhaust, clifford water heated manifold,650 edelbrock carb and accell coil. I have not had access to a dyno to test it yet so any guesses on how much horsepower it would have? Also I have purchased a plate nitrous system and will install it after I change the pistons and rods to forged type.Any tips on running nitrous?,what compression to run etc.The kit has 50,100,and 150 horsepower jets.I would like to go with the 150 of course, any thoughts??? :p

Why not weigh the vehicle and then run it down a drag strip. There are formulas and slide rules that can then tell you how much horsepower you are getting to the ground if you have a vehicle weight and 1/4 mile time. Add about 10% for driveline losses to get your shaft HP output.Just post your results here. Also, go read the post at www.fordsix.com regarding head gaskets.

You should read as much as you can on nitrous before you even mess with the kit. With that big of a shot you'll want to run another fuel pump and line just for the nitrous system. I think you're going to have to retard your timing too. I know very little about nitrous, so just do as much research as you can. John

there is a guy with an I6 200 and he does the 1/4 mile in just under 14 secs...stock but only Nox...he can only do 4 1/4 mile races before the engine blows...he didnt say what the shot he used was but thats still pretty amazing..and it was in an old 4 door that weighed like 3000 lbs...i guess he used the 500 hp shot of Nox...i think thats the largest shot available...when running nitrous u need an electric fuel pump..make the gaps on the spark plug slightly smaller to compensate for the boost.....actually here is a guide to doing it yourself...

What is the amazing part - that it runs 14's or that the engine comes apart after 4 passes?

Anybody who believes that NO2 is cheap horsepower must be using somebody elses money.

Runnin 11's on a normally aspirated 4V carbed 300 - 1045 passes and counting...

Nox is actually the cheapest horspower available...u can get a 50-100 HP shot kit for about 200.00 after that all u gotta do is buy the bottle...for our inlines that is definitely the cheapest horsepower available...u would sure spend a lot more for parts to get 50+ HP....

the amazing part is both actually...14's is about 6-8 secs better than stock...plus the fact that the stock engine can handle a full 4 shots of nox down a total of a mile....i certainly cant see any stock v6 or v8 getting that many runs...biggest difference though being in the strength of the bottom end....rockers would probably last longer but the bottom end would certainly go a lot quicker...

its not cheap if u use too much nox...but a stock engine should be able to handle 25-50 HP shot no problem stock....i'm not saying it was cheap for the other guy...but u can upgrade the strength of the engine for 2-3,000...and it will be able to handle both nox and turbo...for a few years anyways...but nox is still a cheap HP adder....even if it does blow your engine...i still cant see getting 50 HP for 200.00 straight up...

Thanks for the input,I agree with trueslayer that it is about the cheapest horsepower you can get.I have researched it ver carefully as well as talked to people who use it,one guy has had it on his truck for over ten years and using it only occasionally has had no engine problems. It is just another way of getting more air fuel mixture into the combustion chamber, same as a turbo or blower would do,but for under 500 bucks and it is power on demand only when you want it.If the engine is built for it,forged pistons, rods, good head gasket and bolts,I dont think it would be any problem used properly at wide open throttle, any way I will let you know soon...jimm

If you take baby steps on you tuneup and 2 degrees for every 50 nitrous hp you will be fine.

Aries told me that 75 hp shot nitrous is all that my pistons would take. Well, I'm at 175 hp now and no problems. Our tuneup is that good though. Every pass we read the plugs and every three passes we put a new set of plugs in it. NGK make a awsome nitrous plug that if the cylinder run to lean it will burn the grounding strap off and put that cylinder out. That will keep it from burning a hole in the piston.

My new King Sissell headed 292 motor will have JE nitrous pistons, GRP nitrous rods and 2 NOS fogger kits. I think we can make 900-1000 hp. This is what happen's to a bracket racer that start's hangging OUTLAW street car guy's.

Just wondering, how much is it to refill a Nos bottle? And how many uses does it give at say a 50 horse shot?

Well on my 100hp setup and 1/8 track we could get 5-6 passes. On a 1/4 mile track 2 passes. All this depends if you are purging down to a certon bottle pressure like we do. We have a lot of bottles (22 for the 3 car team) so we get a larger volume price in our area 3.50 lb but we don't emty the bottle all the way. We make 2 passes and put in a full bottle. A match race can pay $500-1000 dollars so we dont chance losing with a low bottle pressure.

It's a gray area if a motor make 150-200 hp is nitrous really is cost efective that will be left up to the owner. Now on the other hand a 400-450hp six owner can bolt on easy 250 extra hp for $600-1000 depending on the system now that's cheap HP. Yes, you can build a turbo motor that make the same power but for how much$$$$$$$$$$$$ We did a turbo bike project and it took months and a ton of cash. The nitrous bikes are just as fast and bolted theres on in a weekend.

Hey guys,
I have got a stock 235. I am thinking about taking the rodchester carb off and putting a 2bl holly webber carb on there from stovebolt. Is it possible to shoot a 25-50 hp nos shot into this setup? One of my friends dad has a set up that he used on an old camero, and he said I can use it. It is made for a 4bl though, so I think I would just use the bottle. I would not plan on using it too much, but would this put much wear on my engine. Its a fresh rebult, only 4000 miles on it so far.
Thanks guys,
Joseph

25-50 HP shot of nos really isnt too much...any power adder will reduce the life of an egine...but not all that drastically...u wont have a problem with that...u could actually rig up the system to the aircleaner to inject right into the top of the carburator...wouldnt be too hard to do...or u can get a kit from eldebrock which is a 2BBl spacer with a spray nozzle or 2 and various attachments...probably not too pricey..

thetrueslayer, I have looked all over the eldelbrock website and cannot find this spacer your are talking about. Would you mind pointing me in the direction where I can locate one.
Thanks
Joseph

NOS systems has a sneaky Pete system that bolts on to the air cleaner stud. It may work better because you praying through the carb. Look on NOS site for details
