Hi guys,I just bought 3 40 series Webers and plan to install them on my Chevy 250.It is built.
Bored 30 over,10.1 compresion,cam is 290 duration,560 lift and 108 lobe seperation,headbolt boss removed,188 in 155 ex.
I talked with someone at Clifford and they told me that the Webers were not streetable. The car is not a daily driver.I have seen cars in our mag with Webers ,the caption read who said you can't use Webers on the street.
Any insite would be a great help. I REALLY want to use these. Help.

They may be thinking your total package is not streetable. My guess is with the head work, cam and carb they are thinking it would be too radical.

In my opinion it should work with a manual trans and some gear or an at with a decent convertor stall. I am guessing you are talking about 40DCOEs which are infinitely adjustable. There are plenty of books on tuning them; down side is parts (jets, venturis etc) are expensive.

We have had several 1300 and 1600cc Alfas with dual 40 or 45DCOEs and they drove very well. A hot ~4.1 liter six should be fine with three.

Matt,

Clifford sells the intake if you don't have one.
My plans call for a built 292 with side drafts in a Lakes Modified. Mine is still in the planning stage but I'm collecting parts. Your 250 should be a very strong runner on the street. If the Supercharged, nitrous V-8 guys can run on the street, your tri-powered inline should be just fine!

Thanks guys,I guess there is some problem with them being to big. I was told that I would be getting back fire at off idle and if I fixed that it would backfire somewhere else in the RPM range. Not sure what the guy at Clifford meant.
Don't have a manifold or linkage yet, I would
be interested in a used one.
Anyother feed back would be great.

I am suprised that someone at Clifford's is turning you off to webers, they sell them. Who did you talk to?

I don,t remember his name. I was not happy with his response.I picked up 2 books on Webers and have been reading them. Seems straight foward once you know all the different circuits. The only thing I am concerned with is my current cam.
290 duration around 108 lobe seperation 560 lift
Nice engine w, what year Firebird and what is done to the rest of it. Is it streetable?

matthew- It's a 67' Firebird. I am just getting the motor running again after long rebuild so I can't tell you exactly how steetable it is but I plan on driving it on Power Tour some day.

This pic is pretty poor, but you get an idea.

I have gotten negative comments about my cam selection and intake questions from Clifford and then positive comments about the same setup from Langdon and Mike Kirby . . . once I get it on the street, we will see who really had the best advice.

it depends what u can live with on the street..your combo isn`t that radical that u can`t use it on the street......the webers are by far the most responsive & power producing carbs u can bolt on ...tuning is not that difficult...

GOOD JOB with the Firebird.

I've often wondered why you hardly see any of those around.

Please let us all know how it is after 'broken in and fine tuned'. ;\)

The size of the individual throttle blades per cylinder is so large that you have no low speed signal. While the large blade per cylinder is correct in every way as to what an inline six wants, the booster is the victim the dreaded reversion pulse. Therefore the fuel flow is affected negatively.

Fuel inject it with the same size blades, you'll be glad you did.

The Webbers were the best setup I ran on my car. Even for an every day driver , throttle response was fantastic. The low speed signal was perfect no problems at all.

I see no problem running 3 webers, I'm running 3 Dellortos and they're almost perfect right out of the box! Very good throttle response and I'm expecting decent mileage too. Also a daily driver when done.
I have pics on the website

I have 3 matching DCO 50 SP's if any of you are interested. I picked them up a couple of years ago and have not found a use for them.

What happened to the guy with the 68 Firebird with the three side draft Webbers?
I wanted to know what it runs in the 1/4 mile.
