I am putting together a GMC 302 and am trying to gather info on cams and remember someone having good experience with Delta(?) cams. Any address for them or other thoughts?

Thanks,

Ed Pruss

Hi Ed . . .

I called them up and talked to Scott about doing an obscure Iksy grind on a cam for my 216 build. He knew the grind and they did a first rate job:

I just spoke w/ Scott at Delta. What a pleasure speaking with a knowledgable person. Reasonably priced, too.

I bought a cam from Delta for my 302,good price, fast delivery. One problem though, like many cam grinders,Delta figures the grind on a rockerarm ratio of 1.5,but it's actually 1.4 using the sheetmetal rockers. So you're cam will be shy lift and duration unless you have the grinder allow for this fact.
I sold that cam to a friend, had Colt Cams in BC Canada grind me one based on the 1.4 rocker ratio,Delta would have done this for me,but I wanted to try Colt Cams.
I was very pleased with the quality and knowledge of the owner, the engine runs like a bear with my own cam specs , 215 duration at .050 lift,112 degree lobe separation,.305 lobe lift or .430 at the valve based on 1.4 rocker ratio.I set the intake up to open at 1 degree after TDC at .050 lift and closes at 35 degrees. The engine idles with a moderate lope at 700-800 rpm, pulls strongly from 1000 -4500 rpm, fairly quiet with valve clearance set at .012 intake and .014 exhaust.
