My 47-54 GMC maintenance manual lists specs for 228, 248, and 270 but none for my 302. Mostly I need stuff like point gap, spark plug gap, capacities, radiator pressure, timing, valves, carboration, etc. I don't really need bearing clearances and torque setting, just basic tune up stuff.

Is there a manual available for the 302, or does anyone have a spec sheet of some sort. Can I find anything online?

By the way, it's a 1953 motor if that makes any difference.

Check the local library. They usually have older Motors Manuals. Just copy the page(s) you need etc.

Good luck, John M., #3370

The 302 isn't covered in any of the light truck manuals but a workshop manual for series 100-500 models will have all the specs. Mine shows the following:

plug gap .030"
points gap .016"
timing 5 degrees BTDC
valve lash intake .012" exhaust .020" (hot)

There's an entire chapter on the Stromberg 2-barrel carb, tell me what you need and I'll see what I can find.

Thanks for the 302 information.

I'm not sure if my carb is a Stromberg or a Holley. I was thinking it was a Holley because other threads have mentioned 2 bbl Holleys on 302's. I don't really need any specific info on the carbs. I was just wondering if there were any manuals available that cover the 302.

I guess I'll have to keep on the lookout for a Workshop manual.

Sidehill,
The 1955-59 GMC maintenance manual will have a section on the 302 and will cover all the carbs that were available from the factory. These manuals can be found on eBay from time to time and reprints are available from most automobile literature store such as Faxon Auto. Also availble is a reprint of the 1952 GMC 6x6 military manual for the 302. You should be able to find sources using a web search.

Yes, I've seen the 55-59 GMC manual on Ebay, but not the 52 6x6 manual.

thanks for the tip
