Hi guys!!

I´m from Brazil, and I`m making a Drag Race car with a Chevy 250cid Twin Turbo, with Comp Cams Billet Roller Camshaft and lifters (Special Order), Iskenderian Aluminum Rocker arms, 4" Holley Throttle Body, Weld Aluma-Star Wheels with 32"x14" Goodyear rear tires and 25"x4,5 front tires, Powerglide Transmission with Dedenbear case (custom made by TCI) and eletrical activate solenoid for the second gear, TCI Torque Converter for 5.800 rpm and etc etc..

This car is a new project to run in 8s low here in Brazil, and the engine is not finished yet.

To this car, I really like to do somehing different of the others brazilian cars with Chevy 6 engine. I would like to use a Aluminum Head by Sissell, but I don´t know a thing about this aluminum head.

Anyone knows something about this head?

Thanks a lot!

Douglas Carbonera - Brazil

Sweet Looking ride. Here is MIke Kirbys web site.
http://www.sissellsautomotive.com/ Your questions about this head would be best answered by Mike Himself.

What would you like to know about the cyl head?
A lot of the times Mike gets too busy to answer emails ,phone calls, etc....
How much will your car weigh?
Very good looking!
How much was your comp roller cam & how long was the wait?
Good luck w/your project!

First of all: When this head will be avaliable for purchasing??

Second: I woud like to know about flow, and if this head is apropriated for turbocharged engines, and if 250 stock head parts (performance parts made for 250 stock head) fits this cilinder head (like push rods lenght, rocker studs, head studs, inox valves...)
Third: How and when can I buy one of this aluminum heads??

This car, ready to race, will weight above 2.500 pounds.
The roller cam I payed here in Brazil U$1.400.
Here is the cam Chart:

276 @ 0,050 Intake
290 @ 0,050 Exhaust
699" Lift Intake
722" Lift Exhaust
112 Lobe Center
RPM Range: 5.500 a 8.500 RPM
Max RPM: 9.000 rpm

Thanks Hank!!

I believe Mike posted on the website when they will be available.
The flow varies on what you want. My head flows roughly (w/a 208 intake valve) 320 @ .650 lift intake I forgot about the exhaust.. have to find my flow chart.
I believe Mike can get close to... @ (28 inches mercury) 400 CFM w/all out comp porting larger valves etc.
It can take turbocharging... the deck is no less than 3/4 inch thick & goes to 1 inch thick, it's a stout heavy head.
It needs custom length valves, push rods, guide plates. Head bolts, I believe you can use standard BB Chevy rocker arms.
He is trying to get some shaft mounted roller rocker arm set-up made for his cyl. head.He has all the parts needed. Of course you need to fabricate an intake & exhaust for it. He has the flanges to get you started.
This is mostly things I remember off the top of my head ... but most of what I stated is pretty close to being correct.
That is a huge cam for a turbocharged 250!
Is that what you guys run when going that fast with turbocharged cars?
What trans do you use? Stall etc????
How much Horsepower are you planning on running ?
Are there any websites w/the other turbocharged Chevy 250'S ?
How much horse power are the other turbocharged Chevy 250's producing?

Hank

WOW!!!! 400 cfm @ 28" mercury????
My GOD!!!!!

That´s what I´m talking about!
I will have to buy one of this head to my car!!!
Do you have an ideia how much cost a head like this (with extreme competition porting), with push rods, guide plates, valves, head bolts and rocker studs???? (If I negociate one of those, can I send some parts that I have to Mike, like valve springs, titanium spring retainers, super lock valve locks, to take this head fully mounted to Brazil??)
This head will still using BB 1.75 rocker arm ratio??
Fabricate Intake & exhaust is not the problem.

My cam is Designed to serius performance, and it take like 3 month to be done at Comp Cams. This cam is a little bit more powerfull that the guys here in Brasil are using.
I will use a 1.76 1st. gear Powerglide with Dedenbear case, an 5.800 stall torque converter.
I´m planing to reach (with an aluminum 12 port by Sissell) between 1.200~1.300 hp.

Guys here in Brazil reach something about 700 to 900 hp with Turbo Fuel Injected 250cid, Mechanical camshaft, Stock head and 65mm Throttle Body. The best ET in 1/4 Mile is 8.4s, made by a Pro Mod 250 with Paxton and a lot of gas (nitrous). This car is runnig a blow Chevy Small Block now.

I have a lot of videos and photos in my computer, but don´t have websites of Brazilian cars.

My MSN: icj0675@hotmail.com

Thanks Hank!!!!

I think you need to call or email Mike for any type of price involved with what you need.
He knows a lot about these six cylinders.
His 250's on his dragster with his cyl. heads make 700 HP each ,no turbo, blower, no nitrous.
Could you post some pictures on this forum(like your car) of some turbocharged Chevy 250's. They are not too popular here in the states.
Thanks
Hank

Certainly contact Mike for the updated details but there is a price list published (as a .PDF document) on his web site (www.sissellsautomotive.com). The price is is a bit dated (2004) but it will at least give you an idea about what products and services Mike offers and a general starting point for costs.

Also, my understanding is that Mike has two or three intake manifolds available for the 12-port head including one for supercharging (turbo or Paxton type), and one for normal carbs. I believe he now also offers individual port injectors (both mechanical like he uses on his twin six FED and electronic).

I'm not absolutely sure but I think he produces two versions of the head; one with water jackets and one that is solid (race only), though I may be wrong.

In any event, his 12-port head is a true thing of beauty.

OK!

I just sent a lot of e-mails to Mike, with no return. I will have to find a friend here in Brazil who talks an english better than me to call Mike and negociate this cylinder head.

Here some photos of Brazilian Turbocharged engines.
Hope you like it!!

Thanks!

Douglas: While I would certainly look to the Sissell 12-port head for your project, you might just check out this web site just for grins:

www.falconerengines.com

when there, click on the "hot rods" hilited text. If you haven't seen this, be prepared to be blown away!

Ryan Falconer has been around for years going back to the late 60s in CanAm racing. For several years now he has offered this incredible V12. What's interesting is that the specs for the engine are similar to the Chevy V8 in terms of many of the block and head dimensions. That's of interest because, like the small block V8, the 230, 250, and 292 Chevy inlines share some measurements like cylinder bore spacing at 4.40 inches (as I recall). So potentially, one of Falconer's V12 heads might be an interesting fit on top of a Chevy inline.

Obviously, fitting such a cross flow head is a significant undertaking with lots of block work, custom cam (the order of intake and exhaust values don't match), and how knows what else. But guys like Leo Santucci have assembled composite cross flow heads from sectioned small block V8 cores and they work really well.

Anyway, something interesting to look at and ponder ...

Larry/Twisted6:

This Damper is a Brazilian Damper, manufactured here by Powertech (www.powertechnos.com.br).
In that engine, the damper were welded.

That´s is a normal kind of "job" here in Brazil...

Wow! great pics!
I talked to Mike today & he said all the 12 port cyl heads are all spoken for(none available right now)
He did take the twin eng dragster out & ran one practice pass & let off early because the track was in bad shape from the wet weather, ran a 7.8(if I remember correctly) & set him in 8th pos out of 31 entries, but the Goodguys event was cancelled ,so no more runs :-(.
What size (turbo) are the single turbo cars?
What brand? etc?

Hank!

Are you closer to Sissell Shop?? Or are you a friend of him??
He said to you WHEN the 12-port aluminum head will be avaliable??

This Innovative Cast Iron Manifold is made here in Brazil, by SPA turbo, but don´t look to have good flow!

About the single turbo engine, I don´t have the exact specs, but I can research for you!

Thanks!

How Much time to become Summer in USA?? \:D

The cast Manifold is this??
http://www.spaturbo.com.br/html/produtos_avulsos/coletores_turbo06.htm

This cast turbo manifold here in Brazil cost U$120,00.

About the single Turbo spec, this is a Brazilian Custom Made BallBearing Turbocharged, made by Turbo Anhanguera (www.turboanhanguera.com.br).

It´s a MasterPower Turbocharger A/R.82 (made here in my Town) and modified by Turbo Anhanguera, with 60mm rotors, compressor .82 and hot part 1.20.

Summer is about three months away.
Mike does not answer all my emails as he is always busy with potential customers, current customers & trying to get out & race also.
If I really need to get in touch w/him I usualy will need to call him.
I told him about what you want to do & how much horsepower you want to make, & he thinks you will need to beef up/strengthen the bottom end maybe even a stronger aftermarket crankshaft.(If they are available)?.Get in touch w/Ken ,he does the machine work on Leo's engine, doweling the main caps and other things.Or... you can Have Mike Kirby do this also. I'll send you the link to his website.Gotta go to work now, gotta cut it short. Talk to you later
Let me know whatever else you need any help in I will try my best to answer your questions or point you in the right direction on who you need to talk to.

Hank

Hank!!!

Thank you VERY MUCH for your help. It´s very important to me make friends here in US!

I´m really thinking about order a Sissell´s Cyl head, and when it be done, travel to US to "get in touch" with people like you and others inliners, know more about 6 cyl. from you and Mike, and bring the cyl. head back do Brazil.

I don´t have register of a Mike´s Cyl Head here in Brazil, only ONE Aluminum Head made by Joe Deppe (Deppe Engineering), that is running on a circle track car!

Anything that you need, I also will be total in disposal. We talk better for email.

Thank you, again!

Douglas,
The Joe Deppe cylinder head is an older design than Mikes head.
Mike's is better flowing & better quality.
The Deppe head has square intake ports so you need to make square tubing.
Mikes intake & exhaust ports are round so it would be easier to fab an intake & exhaust manifold.
What did you mean by you do not have a register Mike's cyl head?
You have seen his website... correct?

Hank

Hank!

I´ve got many photos of Mike´s Cyl head on his web site, and on Steve´s (Mighty6) web site too. But what I am trying to say is: here in Brazil, I never saw Mike´s cyl head runnig, and I believe that only a few people (no more than 10) knows about Mike´s head here.
Better for me!!! I´ll be the first!!!! ;\)

PS: My english is really bad, huh?? \:D

Douglas,
your English is not bad at all.
I understand it.I misspell words a lot of times.
I sent you another email.
That would be cool to have the only Sissell head in Brazil.

Douglas,

Have you read the June 2005 Hot Rod Magazine about the 12 port aluminum head? It contains flow and dyno test results.

Thanks for the pictures. Very impressive work!
