I have been trying everywhere to match the paint on my 66 C10 dash. It has never been repainted and has been in our family since new. The paint charts all show a fawn...but a restoration pack from GM stated in 66 they used a dark fawn. I found a color code from 66 cars that states dark fawn, but no dealer has been able to match it yet. Have any of you experienced this and found a match?

By the way, I have used the Autocolorlibrary....they do not show it, although after several conversations, they at least admit there was a darker fawn. I'm hoping they will send me a color sample.

Try NAPA auto parts. Considering you don't live in California you should have better luck getting the right shade you need. If you have swap meets in your area look for the old Ditzler paint chip sheets. They are much easier to take with you to show them the right color.

I have a NAPA right down the street. I didn't realize they sold paint. I don't think I have ever seen it in there except for rattle cans.

A friend's dad in Montana who works for NAPA says they can get just about any color you need. You may have to special order it.

DuPont Perfomance Coating library list 2 Fawn codes for that year. Saddle Fawn which is darker then Fawn is #181-97787. Fawn is #93-79144. Both however have the same body code stamping,(525) & (555). Any supplier of automotive paint or a local body shop should be able to supply those colors.The problem might be in the type of finish as older enamels are sometimes harder to replicate.DuPont was the supplier of GM paints of that era.

I think the 525 and 555 referred to the exterior, with 525 being saddle fawn poly and the 555 referring to the two tone, in my case white on top.Sorry if that's what you mean by body code, and I'm misunderstanding.

Are the other two numbers interior colors?

Well,you're right about exterior numbers,but wasn't the interior color the same as the exterior? I'm not really sure.

Dear Curt;

Forget the numbers & codes etc. \:\(

Take your ashtray to an Automotive Paint Store and have them make it up while you wait.

Happy trails. \:\)

I agree with John, find a good paint shop and have them match it. Thats what I did on my '70 Blazer and it's really close. Also don't think just because you don't live in Calyfouriya that they don't decide what paint you use. Before CSK ( Checker, Shucks, Kragen ) bought out Grand Theft Auto Dupli-Color made a pretty good rattle can lacquer. It's not available any more because this huge corperation thats buying every parts company it can couldn't sell it in the Golden State!
