Greetings . . .

Has anyone ever seen this body style before?

Based on the tag it appears to have started life as a sedan delivery.

The seller claims GM did the work:
\'49 Forestry Truck on Ebay?

Anbody know anything about this unique ride?

regards,
Keith

Not here...

He's pretty keen to not let anyone he considers unworthy bid on it, isn't he?

Combine the spelling and the mentality... I don't think I'd like to deal with someone that silly.

But you have to admit, it is interestingly
different. Grammar errors aside, if I was near
Fresno,CA I'd have to check it out.

Oh yes, you would... but would you deal with someone who comes across like that?

You'd sort of buy it just to make sure it wasn't in the hands of such a type of person, wouldn't you?

I think it may just be a case of someone trying to keep from being bothered by Nigerian scam artist or similar con-artists that frequent Ebay. They tipically have low or even zero feedback ratings, and they want you to cash a check for more than the actual amount, and have you refund them the extra. Of course the check bounces and you're out several thousand dollars...

The "attitude" of it does leave something to be desired, and I have seen this many times on Ebay, usually on things that are redicuously over valued by the seller. I guess you'll just have to think about the vehicle itself and not the person selling it.

It makes me think of funerals... (flower car)

Did the Aussies make a Ute in '49? how does it compare to this one?

Check out auction #4612369313. Three Aussie '49 utes, bodies the same, very different from the one pictured above.

Look at the closeup of the front bed corner, the button head bolts aren't in a straight line. Some of the undercarriage looks pretty sketchy too.

I'd be very leery of buying a $10G-plus car from anybody with that much attitude. Dood's got issues...

issues, attitude are an understatement.

The personalities on ebay continue to amaze me. Some of them are running a business and you wouldn't know it when you see their ads: 40 lines of diatribe about who can bid and a one line after thought about the item for sale . . .

go figure . . .

I'm with you Eric, the conversion doesn't look like it was done with factory methods - looks like quality hand work and perhaps one off.

The rear suspension has boosters bolted onto the leafs. Is this standard equipment for Sedan Deliveries? None of my manuals shows this detail for the SD.

This person is sure getting his moneys worth out of his ad. Several forums have discussions going on about this vehicle with lots of conjecture as to it being a flower car, maybe converted at one time to fight brush fires as used by the California Forestry Service. However, the sellers responses to questions are very crude and rude answers in the ad itself. He could put it to bed by posting pics he claims to have of the vehicle in fire gear.

Guess what?

It's back:
Very Very Rare 1949 Chev Elcamino

Looks like the high bidder is trying to flip it "for a friend": Bid List from previous Auction

The last auction ended without reserve being met. I wonder if it ever really changed hands.

I love eBay. A spectator sport!

Yeah, he may be a little heavy on "attitude", but right now, I fully understand.

Last week, I had a Mustang on eBay, it was within 1K of my reserve after 3 days, and some twerp w/ zero feedback hits the "buy it now", spends a few more days hemming and hawing over it, and then yesterday tells me he can't buy it.

Dang it, children should not play on the internet w/o adult supervision!

Later, Kinky6

My guess is that if it was a conversion way back then, it might have come from a coachbuilder like Miller, S&S, or Superior for a flower car. I wonder about it ever being used in fire service as a brush truck. Who knows for sure how much it has or has not been been modified since the day it was built? Nonetheless it is a unique piece and knowing its real history may be interesting.

Now, if I just had a Crosley hearse and a Nash Metropolitan limosine conversion to go along with it............. \:D
