Hey guy's can I make the same HP/TQ as the new 6.0L V thing in the new Trailblazer SS with only a 250? They list SAE NET at 395hp and 400lb/ft torque. I really don't want/need this for racing but just to be able to tow. Max towing capacity forthe TBSS is 6700lbs for 2WD. I'm getting a 700R4 set up to tow in 4th and take lots of HP/TQ. I'd like to stay within 12lbs boost using EFI and intercooler and water/alcohol injection if needed. What ya all think?

It can be easy to make those figures.

I would like to get that 700R4 with the 5th gear, where did you find that?

I was looking at Mad Dog transmissions. Seems they are not on eBay anymore but many just like them that have a towing trans such as GoodFellows and G Men. Would you think that I would need a higher stall with towing since I would need to get it up into the boost range to make some torque with?

Well,,,
a higher stall will cause worse gas mileage around town.
But on the open highway it should not make any differece since it will lock up(the converter).

I was being sarcastic about the 5th gear, they do not have a 5th gear. :-)
Are you going to turbo, or supercharge it?

DUH................. Yea, well I try to proof read my post but, seems like this one got away from me.

I guess with a Gear Vendors unit it would be an 8 speed. I've got the room but, not the bucks!

Hank :
Going turbo for my performance adder. I really don't want to crank it up too high. I would think the stall speed of a given torque converter would go up anyway from stock due to torque production.

Edy :
I guess that 15lbs would not be too much more than my 12lbs I had mentioned.

Randy S. Hager.....

Stall??, depends on your turbo selection & camshaft.
But ,,,even w/a stock cam & small turbo, you need @ least 2400 RPM stall to get decent quick spool up.
I would get closer to the 2800 RPM stall with a little bit bigger turbo & cam..

Sure, it will go up(the rpm) but not by much.
What type of stall are you looking to get?

As soon as I can get my turbo set up and see just when the boost comes in then I can determine what stall will get just into boost and make addtional HP/TQ for towing. I hope I can do it this way. I would like to see it get almost 4lbs boost before it will grab and start to move. You guy's out there have way more experience than I have. ;\)

Randy S. Hager,
what turbo set-up are you going with?
A SPA turbo manifold?

If I can get that far, Yes I will use the SPA turbo manifold and a T-3. Looks like I'm going with my Offy and TBI and a header just to keep it up and running. I have a 1982 Chevy SWB Fleet side with integral head 250. I have the engine I was going to turbo on the engine stand. I'm going to use Larry's lumps and have SS 1.94 - 1.50 valves installed and unshroud the cambers so as to reduce the compression from 9.5 down to 9.0. Since I will be useing a 4.3L ECM and a small cap HEI that is made from a 4.0L marine 4 cyl HEI with 4.3L internals it will keep an eye out for detonation for me. I have a few other obligations to take care of then I will build the turbo motor in ernest! \:\)
