This # is not on the T-5 tech page---it`s out of a van--I think 86-7 want to know gear ratios--didnt these have the funky offset shifter? Is there a problem changing this to the original S-10 shifter. This may have the ratios that are listed--just want to make sure.....52er

These T5s are "top loaders". The shifter mounts on top with four bolts to the housing. You can also use any shifter made for a F-body like a Firebird or Camaro with a T5. You have the version offered behind a 4.3 V6 powered '86 Chevy Astro or GMC Safari van. So your ratios are 1st: 3.50, 2nd: 2.14, 3rd: 1.39, 4th: 1.1, 5th: .73.

Barely a difference from the Astro van tranny. 3rd is 1.36 and 5th is .78. Everything else is the same.

Thanks, like you said not much difference--will go with the one from the van--the guy wants to much for the other one--I think he feels he has the WC gearing. For the money this van tranny has a nice set of gears, will go well with the 265 Spitfire and 3:50 rears...52er

A for sure ID of a World Class is the front bearing,it's machined around the edges.NWC looks like a core plug.

I've had a few T-5's around, all the ones that came from a 2.8 Camaro seemed to be a 4.03 first gear ratio. In my opinion far too low for most inline applications unless you have a small high winding engine.2.8 S10 versions are usually a 3.76 first gear.

The van trannys have a very different bolt pattern to the bell--8" across the top bolt holes and 6 1/2 across the bottom holes and the input shaft and collar is offset--won`t work with the V-8 bell. The 4.3 V-6 bell has the same bolt pattern as the V-8 bell, but has the hydralic clutch--won`t be sure if I can use it, got to see if I can retro-fit the mechanical on to it.

It`s a no go on the van tranny--to much messing around considering that the S-10 tranny bolts right up to the V-8 bell and it`s done--it does have the nice gear ratios with the 3:50 first gear---could e-mail you some pics--I don`t have any luck getting pics on the site....52er

Ended up getting one from a 91 or 92 S-10--I haven`t taken it apart yet but it has new gaskets and sealer sssoooo maybe I got a good one. It has the 3:79 1st gear. The adapter is on the way from Wilcap and all the other parts are here. When everything is here we will start the conversion---let ya know how things turn out....52er

A V-8 bell from a Chev---this not a conversion for a novice--if you are going to try it, get all your ducks in a row and talk to some people on this forum and maybe a speed shop in your area--Good Luck...52er

Go to the MoPar section and search for a post by Don Coatney who has installed a T-5 behind a De Soto I/6 in his 48 P-15. He has also posted on the P15-D24.Com Forum for MoPar cars and on the H.A.M.B. portion of the Jalopy Journal.Com. He adapted the original bell housing to mount the T-5 transmission. The Wilcox adapter uses a Cheverlot bell housing causing you to fab new rear mounts and new clutch linkage. Paul Curtis at KVC Products also sells a kit to adapt the T-5 to the stock bell housing. His phone number is 586-296-2488 and the price was $290.00 with the correct clutch disc to fit your pressure plate and flywheel.
