There prety much all the same unless you go to an HEI system. If the factory one is working okay, your okay.

HEI systems are a lot money & not cost effective. There mostly used for high RPM stuff, cold weather, or commercially where 1000 miles + per week are "normal".

Good luck, John M..........

get a high performance coil...it puts out way more spark than your stock coil and u can feel the improvement...seriously, when i went from my high perf. coil back to stock (high perf. one died) i thought something was wrong with my engine cause it was less balzy...u cant go wrong with upgrading the ignition...and a better coil is a good start.MSD is great...thats what i've been using...accel is just as good...jacobs..whatever..as long as its high perfomance youre good to go....Stock anything sucks if u can get a good quality or high performance part for just a few bucks more...actually the high perf coil will cost double that of a stock one.

Just bolting on a performance coil is not aways going to show a lot of gain or increase in performance unless you make other changes. One of those change being that the "DWELL" will have to be increased to allow the coil to saturate more or build-up more power between firing. You can increase the Dwell on your single pt. distributor but there are limitations. That's were dual pt. and electronic distributors really start to shine. Also if you increase to coil out put, you will have to richen the carb or increase the number of carbs. Many people increase the coil output and the motor starts to "ping" and they retard the timing to elimate it , which usually causes a decrease in performance. Actually the "ping" in this case is caused from a "lean" condition. Icreased fire-power means more complete fuel burning so up-sizing the jets is the thing to do. Paul

the coil looks like it the origianal so instead of putting on an oem coil i was going to put a nice aftermarket one on not looking for any huge gains or anything.

yea...pualweldit mentions a good point...i am running rich and have an aditional 10 degrees timing...thats all it will handle though for opt performance...fuel mileage isnt improved a whole lot, but power is noticeable just not a real big gain...just enough to notice it...i also have an electric distributer.
