I have a 53 chevy 6100 truck there are numbers cast into the block above the starter they are C84 and numbers stamped in the block next to the distributor they are 0404I78 F54P wwhat do I have?

Welcome to the Inliners'! The F54P suffix in your serial number indicates a 1954 engine from Flint. I'm not sure what the "P" indicates. What you also need is the block casting number, which should be a seven-digit number cast onto the block near the fuel pump. The "Casting #'s" link to the left should help you ID the block. Let's hope it's a 261! F54N and F54Q suffixes are for a 261. The numbers above the starter can indicate the date that the block was cast. There should be more than just C84. I pressure washed the block and the only numbers I see by the fuel pump is GM 14 now that I cleaned it I can see the numbers above the starter and they are G 84. this engine appears to be a light blue color can anyone tell if its a 261 by sight I have pictures. I can not find the F54P that stamped in the block on any of the engine I.D links.

F54P is a 1954 235 from a 6000 series 2 ton truck. This is per my Hollander interchange manual.
If the letter after 54 was N or Q, then it would be a 261.
