Moving right along on the 250. I would like to know what to look for when considering reusing rocker arms and swivel balls on my chevy 250 rebuild. What would cause for reject be? What would be the better quality replacement, Mellings or Clevite?

Com Cams roller tip rocker arms would be a minimum replacement for me.
There are aftermarket swivel balls w/groves in them for better oiling.
Any gouges,wear marks on the tip of the rocker arms where it pushes on the top of the valve,reject,there pretty cheap for a replacement set.

Thanks. Is the ratio 1.7? Where can I find the roller rockers? Are the the same as SBC?

It has a 1.72 ratio which is fine Maybe you can order the 3/8 grooved balls & 3/8 nuts to go with the BBC rocker arm?? Maybe they make Chevy inline rocker arms as I did not look @ their website too long. Try & give them a call & see if they can help you. Tech Support: 1-800-999-0853 BBC will work w/a 3/8 stud. MBHD

Not cheap, but made for 250. The correct ratio in 1.75. Comp

The main thing you have to watch out for on MOST after market roller rockers is 1&12 Because most companys to Not make them to clear the valve cover.But I do have ones that are made JUST For
US (our L6's) that have been machined for valve cover clearance.
Also as another side note again most roller rockers to not fit under a stock Valve cover.Not with out useing a spacer.And That to is on hand.

I was thinking he does not want to spend that much $$$ that is why I suggested some Comp Cams magnum rockers as they will fit under the stock valve cover & give you accurate valve lift as compared to stockers & @ least gives you a roller tip.
Even if it is a 1.7 -1.72 ratio,that is still better than the stock stamped steel rockers where your ratios will be all over the place & all different valve lifts,unless you have time to physically check stockers for proper ratios & go through a bunch of them just to find a full set of good ones.

That is a good price for the Harland Sharp and they have a good reputation on the Corvairs. Comp Cams and Crane both sell what they claim is for the inline 6, but I'm not sure they are not the exact same as the 396-454 rocker. I have the Crane Gold in my 292, but I think I should have used the Crower Stainless roller rocker. Crower In the left menu, click on SS & Aluminum stud-mount rockers. They have 3/8" and 7/16" and a true 1.75 ratio, which tells me they actually made them for the inline 6. 250 292 rocker and priceThey should work under the stock valve cover.

Harland Sharp rockers are priced quite a bit lower than any others, they are a quality piece and guaranteed for life, break one and replacement is free. Seems like a no brainer to me, I will be using them on my 292.

I'll try and get some photo's up of the Rockers That are made just for our L6's.( 1.75)These are machined for Bigger spring Dia.& added push rod clearance,And 1 & 12 are machined to give more valve cover clearance as well. The other big Plus is they have a Wider Roller tip.And are still guaranteed for Life.

Curious: the Gen-3 L6 is similar to the SBC in many ways; is the valve stem angle the same at 23°?

As far as the stock rockers are conserded, they will do just fine on a normal rebuilt engine. You want to look at the area where the valve stem hits the rocker, if its grooved or worn any, replace it. The worn patch will act like a grinder on the valve stem head and the softer of the two will wear down.
Also check the push rod end for wear, the push rod will dig in into the arm. Any of the aftermarket stamped rockers will work fine, E-bay had some stock GM ones not long ago.
