It looks like I will have an opportunity to pick up an industrial straight 8. This particular one was powering a welder at a government site and appears to be very lightly used (the hour gauge only shows about 100 hours). Does anybody have experience with these? I know there was a supercharged Airflow 8 at Bonneville a few years back.

Great score Leif, I hope it happens. The only one I ever had experience with was an irrigation well motor. It pulled a 12" pump at about 180'. It ran on propane and was fired up in late May or early June and ran almost constantly till late July or August. It was 1/3 mile from the house and we could see the red glow from the exhaust manifold at night. My dad often lit his cigarettes from it. We, my dad, drilled a new well about a mile from the house and someone stole the big 8.

Don't pass it up, even if you don't know what you will do with it!

These things are becoming very rare, one with low hours and regular maintenance could be very handy to someone.

Or you could use it as an excuse to find a car to put it in..
