I have a 194 head that I want to get rebuilt for my 292. This will be used in a street car (Nova).

Should I just have it rebuilt to stock specs? If not, what should I do?

The 292 has a cam and valve springs from schneider racing. The cam/springs have less than 100 miles on them. Should I just pull the springs off of the 292 head and use them on the 194 head?

What can I expect for the cost of the rebuild?

Can anyone recommend a good machine shop in my area (southern california, 92313)?

Thanks everyone.

If putting money in the head I'd put bigger valves in.
IIRK the 1.60 ev is kinda big unless cut down to 1.55 or relieve the chamber.

I've pondered putting Ford Windsor valves in at 1.84iv x 1.54ev, seemed like a good ratio and would fit without shrouding, not sure about installed height though.

See who else comments but I'd for sure do bigger valves, a 292 six is the same per cylinder as a 389 v8, wouldn't you want bigger valves in that?

Call Dave @ West coast cyl heads.
818 705-5454

1.60" is fine for the exhaust. I believe 1.85" intake
Can go slightly bigger, but you risk hitting into water.
I have hit water a few times trying to get a 1.94 valve to fit in a 194 head.

Lump ports are worth getting.

These are going to be too large for application, but we used 2.150" intake valves in all of Cotton's 292's and never hit water going that big....

You didn't say anything about it, but if you haven't already had it done, get screw-in rocker arm studs installed, especially if you're using heavier-duty valve springs than stock. And yes, if you're going to run the Schneider cam, use the valve springs that came with the cam on the 194 head.
