Get the wire brush out and double check your 394257. If it is actually 3994257, then it is a 67-72 250. The closiest I can come on the head is the last 4 digits 4437. If it 3824437 then the head is off a 63-66, 230, but you might want to double check that as well. Hope this helps.

The casting number on the head might be split in two and the beginning of the number could be over the cylinder before it.

let me first say thanks for your help.what i have is a 250 i had rebuilt.the engine that i have came from 2 different 250s.the guy who rebuilt it couldnt remember what head and what block he used for what.
ok i took the valve cover off and found the head #s.the engine is on a stand going to be put in next friday.this is how the i.d.#s look on the block.3 94257.there is a space between the first # and the second.
ok back to the head.im going to need spark plugs for the engine.last night i went to auto zone to get some, well not know what year the head is i told them two different years to see if they are the same.no.i told them a 66 250 and then a 71 250.what year do i really need or what part #.my friend said if i dont get the correct ones i could mess up the pistons.i dont need that since i just had it rebuilt.
